My Opinion on Opinions

Opinions. Everyone’s got them nowadays, right? Opinions are a very powerful weapon to yield. Your opinion could persuade half of the mightiest country in the world to vote for you, even though you’re a raging lunatic. It could perhaps even get you killed, if you use it against your ruling regime. It could make a friend cry in despair, it could ruin you, when used the wrong way. On the flip side, opinions are supposed to be used in way of sharing ideas collectively and professionally. They should be used to improve and further peer’s ideas, or compliment them.
However, it seems that in this age, or generation, the acceptance of others’ opinions that are different than your own is becoming more and more rare. Opposing opinions are often not as valued as they used to be. Referring back to the raging lunatic mentioned above, Donald Trump has singlehandedly begun to wipe out opposing opinions—heck—he threatened to throw the opposition in jail during campaigning! Furthermore, as of today there are 49 dictatorships in the world (a type of government in which one person or group of people hold entire control over the country without any opposing forces. Some examples are Hitler and Kim Jong Un). Therefore, in many of these countries the citizens are oppressed from sharing their opinions, especially if the opinions are against the authorities. Unfortunately, this is spreading throughout the world, and people are becoming more and more subdued as to their opinions and beliefs, and the concept of nonopinion (“Either have no information about the issue or are not interested enough to form an opinion”) is becoming more and more popular.
In spite of this, I personally have strong opinions on certain matters in the news, at school at home etc. and I hope that you do too. It is our generation that must reintroduce inclusiveness and acceptance to society. I’m anticipating that this creative outlet will help me organize my ever-changing thoughts and opinions, and obviously entertain you as well. My love of writing may be known or unknown to you; either way I genuinely hope you enjoy it! That being said, I am definitely open to hearing your opinion on my work, whether it be complimentary or constructive. However, if you decide to be rude free to exit stage left because, though I value your opinion I don’t value your negativity!
Thank you for joining me on this journey. Without further ado, let’s get started!
Love, Isabela :)
