Alas, my second post and I’m already breaking my promise of only one post per week. However, today is a very special day and so I get a freebie!

First, today is my 15th birthday. I want to thank my friends and family for being SO supportive in everything I do! Love y’all!

Second, and more important, today is November 11, Remembrance Day.

When people hear that my birthday is on Remembrance Day, I usually get the same response: “I feel so bad for you, that your birthday is, like, the saddest day of the year!”

The thing about occasions like Remembrance Day is that it can be interpreted and celebrated in different ways depending on the person. Though some people may see it as the saddest day of the year, I see it as the opposite. On November 11, 1919, the Germans surrendered their troops, announcing victory for Canada and the other allied parties. This day called for celebrations across the world, and was a joyous occasion for all Canadians. Now, as November 11 is a call to remember soldiers past and present, I believe we should consider it a tribute and celebration of what we’ve been given as a result of soldiers’ sacrifices, rather than a day of mourning and sorrow.

Remembrance Day symbolizes the triumphs Canada achieved during world wars I and II, and thanks veterans for their service.

I feel that we can all make an effort to live every day knowing thousands of men and women died for us so that we are able to do things like go to school, play outside etc.

Thank you to all my friends and family for a great birthday, and thank you to the veterans who served/ continue to serve my country!
