"Just be Yourself"

We hear it all the time, whether we're preparing for an event, entering a relationship, or doing anything in which we want the outcome to be in our favour. But what does that mean? How are we, young undeveloped adolescents supposed to be ourselves when we don't really know who we are?

As youth, we are very impressionable and naive: it's a fact. It is so easy to be swept up in the world of the media, high school, social power etc. And speaking as someone that still has much to learn about the life I live, I have learned one thing in my 15 years of being here. Through these tumultuous experiences and years of high school, identifying your own values and beliefs and holding true to those are the key to living the best life. As teenagers there are so many standards and forces pressuring us to be versions of ourselves that we may not want to be, and to assimilate into society. One thing I know for certain: being one's self is the only thing that truly differentiates person A from person B. The saying "you're only as good as your word" is completely true, and it proves my point: creating good values and sensible truths in life and sticking to them is the way to truly succeed. At least, that is what I believe.

So please, don't feel pressured to become something you aren't, don't be upset that you didn't conform to someone else's idea of you. Because, in the end, you're going to have to life with yourself, and if you don't like who that person is, then you've got your work cut out for you.

Remember that you are absolutely perfect just the way you are, and if someone doesn't accept that, then that shows more about their character rather than yours. How about instead of saying"Just be yourself", we say: "Stay true to yourself"?

I hope you enjoyed my ramble of nonsense for this week!

Love, Isabela :)
